2022 Residential Resurfacing Project

Contract Number: 21-12
Contractor: American Pavement Systems, Inc.

Project Overview

The City of Yuba City is responsible for the maintenance of nearly 525 lane miles and over 51 million square feet of pavement. The goal of the Residential Resurfacing Projects is to maintain the City's pavement in the best condition possible given the funding available. Each year, preventative maintenance treatments are performed on various City streets. These treatment projects are intended to extend the life of the pavement and avoid costlier repair or replacement of streets.

This year's project involved the installation of Type II Slurry Seals and Asphalt Rubber Cape Seals at various residential areas throughout the City.  The project also involved the removal and installation of striping, marking, and signage improvements.

Funding

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), in an effort to promote the use of California waste tire rubber recycling in pavement design, repairs and maintenance, partially funded the Asphalt Rubber Chip Seal through their Rubberized Pavement Grant program. Through the use of Asphalt Rubber Chip Seals on this project, the City was able to help divert 4,995 Passenger Tire Equivalent (PTE) waste tires from the waste stream.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the street I live on being resurfaced?
City of Yuba City Public Work Department evaluates the condition of all the city streets on an ongoing basis. The department also keeps track of citizen request calls and tracks where maintenance dollars are being spent. Considering all these factors, streets are selected for resurfacing. Without doing this type of work, it is likely that a more expensive and disruptive street project would need to be performed in the not too distant future.

Will the road be closed during this work?
Pavement resurfacing typically requires road closures, which restrict access to and from driveways until the resurfacing is ready for traffic. This is usually completed over a 4-8-hour period during the day. Residents will be notified in advance of any road closures. If you need to use your vehicle on the day resurfacing is scheduled on your street, you should park on an adjacent street not scheduled for resurfacing and walk to and from your home and vehicle. You may also coordinate with construction workers to determine an estimated time of when construction will take place across your property if you need to utilize your driveway beforehand. After the treatment is performed, the road cannot be used until the material has set.

There is "No Parking" posting on my street and nobody is working. What is going on?
First check the name and phone number written on the bottom of the no parking sign. “No Parking” signs are often placed by private contractors. Please contact the number on the sign and ask them for any information about what work may be planned for your street.
