Biography
Councilmember Boomgaarden was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and relocated to Yuba City to attend Yuba College after graduating from high school. While not a lifelong resident of the area his family has a long history in the area dating back to the early 1800's. While attending Yuba College he became a volunteer for the Yuba City Fire Department eventually joining as a full-time firefighter. He promoted up through the ranks to the position of Fire Chief where he served 14 years of his 30-year career with the City. During his career he was also appointed to the Command Staff one of Cal Fire's Incident Command Teams where he traveled throughout the state assisting in the management of large-scale emergency incidents. During his fire service career, he also represented California's Fire Chiefs on several committees at the State Level.
After retiring from the City in 2009, he began working as the General Manager for Valley Truck and Tractor, an agricultural equipment dealership selling John Deere equipment with 9 stores in the Sacramento Valley. In 2017 he was promoted to the position of President of the locally owned company which had been in business for over 70 years.
Councilmember Boomgaarden's education includes 2 Associate Degrees and Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Public Administration. He also attended numerous management and leadership courses at both the California State Fire Academy, the National Fire Academy and the National Emergency Training Center. He has been an active member of our community participating on numerous boards and committees. He has also been actively involved in coaching and support youth sports in our community.
Councilmember Boomgaarden is married to his wife Karyn and they have three sons. Boomgaarden is now serving his second 4 year term and is looking forward to working with his fellow Council Members and City Staff to provide the best services possible to the residents, businesses and guests of Yuba City.
