YCFD Open Burning Guidelines
These guidelines are for application to all open burning within our response area.
Recreational Fires
An outdoor fire burning materials other than rubbish where the fuel being burned is contained in an approved container (BBQ pit, BBQ grill, etc) and has a total fuel area of 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, cooking, warmth or similar purposes.
Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 15 feet of a structure or combustible material. Conditions which could cause a fire to spread within 15 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition.
No permits are required.
Open Burning
The location for open burning shall not be less than 50 feet from any structure and provisions shall be made to prevent the fire from spreading to within 50 feet of any structure.
City Limits and County Service Area - G (CSA-G):
Fire Permit is required unless burn is agriculture related and an Ag Burn Permit has been obtained from the Feather River Air Quality Management District (FRAQMD). All open burning is required to follow FRAQMD's requirements for days, times and materials.
Yuba City Fire Department is not involved in the issuance of FRAQMD permits or the enforcement of FRAQMD requirements.
The Fire Code allows YCFD to require a fire be extinguished due to the emission of offensive or objectionable smoke or odor. All burning (recreational and open) shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished. Fire extinguishing equipment (hose, extinguisher, etc) shall be immediately available.
