There is an opportunity for students in seventh through twelfth grades to visit Toride City, Japan, as student representatives of Yuba City. Toride City is the Sister City to our City of Yuba City. The trip will be from February 12 - 20, 2017. The cost is estimated to be $ 1860.00 (depending upon airfare costs at the time of ticketing. As of this writing, it is $1,760 plus a $100 fee for supplemental medical insurance, ground transportation, entry fees to attractions, etc.)
The trip includes round trip airfare between San Francisco and Tokyo, Japan, and home stay lodging while in Toride City. There will be up to 16 student representatives who can be residents of anywhere in the Yuba-Sutter area. Home stay housing will be with a Japanese family who has a child enrolled in school. Two Yuba City exchange students will be assigned to each hosting Japanese family.
Adult delegation members will also accompany the students. The deadline to apply to be a student representative is December 15, 2016. This is the twenty eigth anniversary of the delegation exchange between Toride, Japan, and Yuba City, California. Many special activities are planned including attending school in Japan.
Students will be selected based upon an interview, application, letter of reference and report card. Students who are selected will be representatives of Yuba City, California and of the United States and will be expected to exhibit appropriate behavior throughout the trip. Formal activities will be scheduled with speeches and ceremonies. Male students will be expected to wear ties and jackets to formal activities and the formal attire for female students will be dresses. All Yuba City students will attend and participate in two days of Japanese school. Emergency medical and insurance information forms will be required for Yuba City exchange students.
We have a long standing friendship with Toride. This is a rare opportunity for a short home stay in Japan at a very reasonable cost. The students who have visited Toride in the past have had very positive experiences. We encourage you to apply to attend as a student representative for Yuba City. If you are unable to apply to travel to Japan your family might be interested in hosting Japanese students or adults who come to Yuba City every Halloween for a few days.
